Funded by the German national initiative Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung(QLB), the current research project is part of the sub-project Basiscurriculum Heterogenität within the framework of the Dealing with Diversity project at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. It seeks to improve the professionalization of pre-service teachers with respect to implementing an EFL teaching practice that considers the diverse leaning needs and backgrounds of their learners. Moreover, it simultaneously aims to help them acquire basic lesson planning skills so they can make initial attempts to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Building upon previous work by—as well as cooperating with—Schmidt et al. at the Department of English Didactics at Leuphana Universität Luneburg, the main focus of the research centers around a university seminar. Specifically, it examines the extent to which this seminar assists preservice teachers in obtaining a solid foundation in EFL planning competencies that consider and cater to learners’ diverse learning needs and backgrounds.
